Today the 4th of June 2019, #MayabelsMovement met with some IDPs at the Bokwai community in Buea to mark the International day of innocent children and victims of aggression. We bought dresses, shoes, savons, Omo, biscuits, sweets and equally prepared food and drinks to wine and dine with the kids. It was a memorable day as we saw the excitement in the faces of the children. The program started with an opening prayer from Berty(one of our volunteers), a word from the chief of Bokwai village and a word from Aishatou Ibrahim (one of our volunteers). We later shared the food and drinks together with the items we brought to them. It is a sad reality that in situations where armed conflict breaks out, it is the most vulnerable members of societies – namely children, who are most affected by the consequences of war. The six most common violations are recruitment and use of children in war, killing, sexual violence, abduction, attacks on schools and hospitals, and denial of humanitarian access. The purpose of the day is to acknowledge the pain suffered by children throughout the world who are the victims of physical, mental and emotional abuse. This day affirms the UN’s commitment to protect the rights of children. Its work is guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the most rapidly and widely ratified international human rights treaty in history. Special thanks to our strong Volunteer team for taking out time to carry out this activity. We love you. We equally thank all those who joined the activity to make it a reality. God bless you.
